The Third Vatican Council, fully the Third Ecumenical Council of the Vatican and informally known as Vatican III, was an event of the Catholic Church and the third to be held at Saint Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. Dates of the council are unknown, except that the "fourth and most crucial session" met September 14, 1985 (Saint Fidgeta and Other Parodies, 87-95). Nepomuk Prynne writes about the events of the council in his Letter from Vatican City.

This fictional ecumenical council parodies the second council that had recently concluded at the time Saint Fidgeta was published.
