The College Bowl (also known as General Electric (G.E.) College Bowl) was a radio, television, and student quiz show. The program first aired on US radio stations in 1953, and then moved to US television broadcast networks, airing from 1959 to 1963 on CBS, and from 1963 to 1970 on NBC[1].
A team of five students, including John Bellairs, represented the University of Notre Dame and competed on the program in two consecutive broadcasts airing March 8 and March 15 of 1959.
1959 Season[]
The fourth episode of the first season saw the introduction of Georgetown University, which went on to win four consecutive weeks. In March they lost to the University of Notre Dame, who fell the following week to Barnard College of Manhattan, New York City. The Barnard team would eventually loose two weeks later[2].

Notre Dame Team[]
The University of Notre Dame team was selected by Father John E. Walsh: "I believe that he just asked around for some likely contestants. Once chosen the team would meet once or twice a week to 'practice' although there were no books of questions similar to the ones that became popular during the time of the Trivial Pursuit game.[3]"
