The Church of Saint Edwy, King and Giant, is a church in Sluicegate Weirs, England, and where Hamish Runcet was verger (Saint Fidgeta and Other Parodies, 100).
Inspiration[]
Eadwig, also spelled Edwy, was King of England from 955 until his premature death four years later. The elder son of King Edmund I and his Queen Ælfgifu of Shaftesbury, Eadwig became King in 955 aged 15 following the death of his uncle Eadred. Eadwig's short reign was tarnished by disputes with nobles and men of the church[1].
In the Catholic Church it's typical to refer to saints with an identifying phrase such as "bishop and martyr" (Saint Timothy), “bishop and confessor” (Saint Athanasius), bishop and martyr (Saint Polycarp), or “virgin and martyr” (Saint Fidgeta)[2].
"Anglicans include Charles I, King and Martyr, in their list since he lost his head in defense of the Established Church among other things. Many local saints in all Catholic countries are based on mythical rather than historic figures, but something like King and Giant is not something you would actually see on a real church.[3]”
